I believe that rescue centres are now full of dogs who if they could understand English would say that they have no idea why they are there. Why is that.... because positively only training means that no one ever tells them that they are doing something that the owner doesnt like. Then when ignoring and/or distracting the dog fails, the dog is gotten rid of. Why didnt someone tell him to stop it, and give him an awareness of the potential costs to himself of continuing that behaviour (no, not a timeout or a naughty step, hes a dog) and the benefits of doing something else instead. At least then he might have had a chance.
