I believe the purpose of this whole trip was an exercise in gratitude. From making it somehow to my flight on the way out to sharing a great night chatting with a dear work friend, to being inspired by a boss who sees all my potential but ignores my flaws to a candid client chat that on fronts both work and personal, showing their deep trust, to the chi town police man who hailed my cab to the lady in my aisle seat who bought me a round and most of all to the guy sandwiched in our middle seat that called us both beautiful women and then went on to share why he was in Chicago- to visit cancer treatment centers of America, the continuation of a long battle against metastasized Kidney cancer... No complaints from him just compliments...to knowing how good it was to be in the same city with both an ex boyfriend, and a former coworker ( at the same client!) and knowing our camaraderie still lasts til today despite our divergent paths and inability to get physically together, to the warm embrace I will feel from my husband and children and doggie upon my return home very soon, having found my missing airport parking ticket saving me from the delay of figuring out how to get out of the garage without it. These... The collective little moments of grace, they mean so much, and yet, we take them so for granted.
