I breathe as I hear my own voice in my head. It is a motherly loving voice. I even feel it pull me in, snuggling me as it whispers turn your face to the sunshine and feel the light on you. I inhale slowly and exhale even slower. The last of my breath is pushed out by the smile that superimposed itself across my face. I sit in the feeling. Its new. This must be what Pharrel means; a room without a roof. I am happy. Like a happy kid with a lollipop in its jaws my thoughts skip around my mind then stop at what has to be the reason for this moment; a sense of accomplishment after my Arabic language exams. Passing the Arabic language course in two months with a 98 score is no big deal in and of itself. However, when you set it against the backdrop of all the obstacles and distractions I had to overcome, it was a GI Jane success! The classes were at 1:00 in the middle of my work day. Some days there were unscheduled meetings forcing me to miss class; so I had to make up the work without the benefit of my professors explanation. There were mommy and wifey duty competing for my study time and the business woman and servant also needing development time. Moreso, it was a personal self-imposed goalthat would have been easy to set aside. So for me this is a teachable moment I embrace and I sit in the feeling to remember it as I continue with the other goals. Saying I did it feels and sounds better than saying I tried. Fighting for my dreams no matter what is the best affirmation I can get and it is a potent empowerment pill! We, especially mothers with dreams face a myriad of challenges and they show up at our door with the finest excuse luggage enticing us to cave. May we all dare to relentlessly press and all feel the kiss of the sun the morning after. If God has called you to it, with him you will g et through it.
