I built a hugel bed at my house. It was with pine, which isnt ideal. Can anyone lend some ideas about layering acid living plants? I put 5 wheelbarrow loads of manure on top of the pine logs, then several loads sullied straw and finally topped it with compost. 6 ft long, 3 ft wide, 3.5 ft tall. Happily, my compost had mycelium growing. Id love tomatoes, beans, berries, cukes, squash, etc. I do not want corn though. This is my first time layering. What would be a good tall plant? Id love to do something along the three sisters but I need a corn substitute.
