I came up with a little game for Burning Man this year that Im inviting you all to play with me, if you choose to ;) Im tentatively calling it WALAs Good Karma Ninja Squad--not the best name, I know, Im not good with names. I named all of my stuffed animals Norman as a child (i.e. choosing names isnt a strength of mine). Im completely open to alternative name suggestions! The rules of this game are only there to help you have more fun (and remind you not to blame me for what happens). The only penalty for breaking the rules is that youre out of the game, and thanks to the other rules, youll be welcomed back in as soon as you want to be! So yeah, please dont yell at me about making rules. Theyre there to help, and if you dont like them, you dont have to play the game :) **Im also totally open to suggestions and amendments! Well likely change a lot of this as we go along. Im thinking of Burning Man as a beta test :) So! Without any further ado, the rules: 1) Before you can play, you must first decide that you WANT to play. 2) If you decide you want to play, know that this is only a game, and you can choose to stop playing whenever you like, for any reason. 3) By playing this game, you are doing so consciously, and relinquish any and all rights to sue me, for anything, in perpetuity (i.e. this is a game, have fun, and dont blame me for what happens when you play). 4) All moves made in the game must be done with pure, positive, and unselfish intention (i.e. everything you do has to be for the good of someone other than yourself). 5) In order to play the game, you have to take your turn (no spectators!). 6) If you stop having fun, youre out of the game until you start having fun again (its a game, if youre not enjoying yourself, why are you doing it?). 7) Teams are encouraged, as long as the group is more helpful than the individuals combined, all other rules are observed, and all individuals involved also know, understand, and have agreed to observe the rules before playing (i.e. follow the rules no matter what!). 8) All players must remain open to feedback at all times (if youre breaking a rule, were gonna tell you, and you gotta listen). 9) When someone is breaking a rule, tell them, not me (we gotta look out for each other). 10) Keep on the lookout for rule breakers so you can help them (you get points for helping each other)! 11) Always remember the point of the game: to have fun, create beauty, and invite others to have fun too, but only if they want to, and only if they also abide by the rules. 12) After following all of these rules, you are officially playing the game, and youll get rewarded for your efforts :) The rules are way more complicated than the game itself... The game is quite simple: youll search for missions, choose whether or not to accept them, and then accomplish them in order to move on to the next mission (or forfeit your turn until you find another mission). You should document your missions (I wont tell you how, thats part of the fun!), because when we get back from the playa, you can send me your mission evidence to get rewards! Each mission will pose a challenge, adventure, or task. Its up to you whether or not you want to accept the mission. Example: Greetings fellow Karma Ninja! Your current mission, should you choose to accept it, is to ask the first person who smiles at you what the coolest thing theyve seen so far at Burning Man is, and then go see it for yourself (note: if youve already seen that thing, keep asking that person until you find something you havent yet seen). For a reward, please return evidence of completing this task to wala (at) walamusic when you return to the default world. The size of the reward is contingent upon the thoroughness of your work, and the nature of the evidence you return. And dont forget to follow the rules! Happy hunting ;) **this mission will not self-destruct, and were at Burning Man, so please dont let this become moop! Pocket this message, or better yet--pass it on to someone else! The rules will be on the back of each mission, so you can pass them along. There will also be blank mission cards, so you can make your own! How does one go about finding these missions, you ask? Look for the symbol I posted in the comments, itll be in sneaky places around the playa (finding them is part of the fun) ;) Ill also be giving them out AFTER my sets (please dont ask me before, during, or when you run into me out and about, because I wont have them), and you can also find them at BMIR (the radio station, 6:00 ish and Esplanade.
