I can hear his voice right now, infact I do a pretty darn good impression of him.... Im referring to legendary Pro Wrestling ring announcer, Gary Michael Cappetta. If youre a life long wrestling fan, as I am, chances are you know exactly who I am talking about, and you can probably hear his voice in your head right now, doing some wrestlers ring introduction. Gary was born on December 12, 1952 in New Jersy. At the age of 21, Gary found himself working for The Ring Wrestling magazine, as the editor. In 1974, Gorilla Monsoon hired Gary to be the ring announcer for the WWWF, in Monsoons booking territories which included New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware among others. In July of 1976, Gary found himself to be the ring announcer for the WWWFs primary Television show. After 11 years of working for the WWWF and WWF, Gary left following a dispute with Vince McMahon, Jr. Following his depature from the WWF, Gary did ring announcing for Pro Wrestling USA, a joint promotion in the Northeast by Verne Gagne & Jim Crockett. Gary only lasted 6 months working for Gagne, after that Gary hit the independent promotions where he continued to ring announce. Gary occasionlly was still given work for both Gagnes AWA and Crocketts NWA promotions. It wasnt until September of 1989 that Gary was offered a full time contract from Jim Crockett. In addition to his announcing, Gary produced and directed commercials to promote special events by WCW and was the Spanish voice for WCW programming on KCAL in Los Angeles. Gary Michael Cappetta remained with World Championship Wrestling until he retired in 1995. Garys last show was WCWs Slamboree 1995. Gary always gave Gorilla Monsoon credit for his big break into the wrestling business. During his career, the bilingual announcer has appeared at thousands of events throughout the US, Canada, England, Ireland, Germany, Northern Ireland and the Caribbean.
