I cannot believe we are approaching the 4 month mark since Johns - TopicsExpress

I cannot believe we are approaching the 4 month mark since Johns injury. Our days are very busy and passing quickly. The replacement of his skull has shown marked improvements in his recovery, and the measured results at Sinai Hospital are amazing to witness. All of his sutures have been removed and he looks great! John has taken charge, at his insistence, of managing his own physical recovery. He is adamant, and right, about what his body needs and how to work out his frozen shoulder (new diagnosis, not separated). He is willing to accept as much help as he can get with the neurological aspect of this journey. His improvements are steady, his patience not so much. He enjoys rehab sessions if they are cognitive or a combination of cognitive and physical. If sessions are only physical, he would rather do it himself at home. John is now remembering some of his dreams when he awakes each morning and shares them with me. He says he doesnt remember dreaming before and it just started. I find this fascinating because its something I never thought to ask him about, and shows further improvement of his memory and communication abilities. His sense of humor and quick wit are hilarious and a new aspect to his personality since the injury. We go back to Dr. Huang next week. Together we came up with a list of questions for her about what he can expect in the future and what kind of timing we are facing before he plateaus. Recovery will be over the remainder of his life, but there is a peak period we must work within to recover the majority of his communication skills. He still needs to rest a few times a day, for which I am grateful. Resting is a huge part of the recovery process and it also slows him down so I can manage all the other balls I am juggling. Watching the man I adore continue to succeed makes my heart and soul smile. God is very good.
