I cannot say that there is ANYTHING that so disturbs me as the evil RAPE of someone by a person that summarily declares a person has a mental illness as a reason to toss them aside. Yes, saying youre deranged or go take your pills is, to me, rape. It completely violates the person as an individual and rips away all their identity and value. Its a way of throwing a person into the garbage. And so many do this evil so easily. It really does incite my rage. In the 21st century the idea that it CONTINUES to be one of the ACCEPTABLE pieces of verbal violence against another human is beyond my understanding. It is literally a way of someone saying you are a piece of trash that should be locked away for all our good. What kind of EVIL F*** do you have to be to suggest such a thing? Of course, Hitler agreed with you.... (no we dont lock them away any longer in most cases - but this is just as violent, if not moreso. Its a way of saying its okay to treat this person like a piece of trash - I confirmed it with my completely ignorant assessment. So we wont lock them up, well let them sit there and be treated like they arent there.) Whenever I hear this thrown at someone I always want to say go say that to John Nash. Seriously, youd get a blank stare and yeah, so what? He has paranoid schizophrenia. He doesnt take meds for it - he deals with it on his own terms. And, yes, his mathmatical theories and equations have changed the world in not only economics and international relations but across the board...and earned him a Nobel Prize. Nash is a perfect example of the fact that having an illness that affects your brain chemistry does not make you less of a contributing person to society, does not make your ideas and skills of any less value. Did we dismiss Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill (bi polar both) completely and put them in a corner to be ignored? Alexander Pushkin? (bi polar) Who else should just get locked up and ignored? Lets see...Virginia Woolf (bi polar), Lionel Aldridge (paranoid schizophrenia), Eugene ONeill (clinical depression), Ludwig van Beethoven (bi polar), Gaetano Donizetti (bi polar), Robert Schumann (bi polar), Leo Tolstoy (bi polar), Vaslov Nijinsky (paranoid schizophrenia), John Keats, Tennessee Williams (depression), Vincent Van Gogh (bi polar), Isaac Newton (bi polar), Ernest Hemingway (clinical depression), Sylvia Plath (clinical depression), Michelangelo (bi polar), Vivien Leigh, Jimmy Piersall (bipolar), Patty Duke (bi polar), Charles Dickens (clinical depression), Catherine Zeta Jones (bi polar), Yes, folks...those are the well documented cases. You should have noted something else above...no, bi polar and other mental illnesses are NOT a fad and being over diagnosed. People are just talking about it and admitting it now. Not that I see its doing any good. Frankly, when I hear someone toss out he needs to take his pills what I hear is I am seriously f***** in the head myself - get me to a doctor for treatment so I can become a Human. No, no attack recently prompted this rant. Ive just been watching the plans for the impending filming of Mind Sifter by Star Trek: New Voyages/Phase II. I spent 30 years of my life helping the people who deal these issues. Its why the episode meant so much to me, and why it meant a lot to my friend Shirley. I hope it meets her expectations and does justice to the subject. We owe it to her and the millions that are still being treated like trash. Even moreso, I hope at least one person who read through the entire rant will speak up and say something to the next person they hear say such violence. He needs to take his pills! Why, will it fix YOUR stupidity?
