I cant believe that 50 years have gone by since that fateful day - TopicsExpress

I cant believe that 50 years have gone by since that fateful day in Dallas when President Kennedy was shot. I heard that this is the 50th anniversary of his assassination. I was sitting in class at Hamden High when the announcement came over the PA that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas, and then a few minutes later it was announced that he was dead!!! Nothing in our life time had ever happened like that before. They let school out early and everyone was in shock. Kids were crying like they had just lost a family member. The age of innocence was over for us. It consumed everyone, it was all that the nation could talk about. It was the first time that every t.v. station carried the same story at the same time all day long. And then the next day, we were outside the house throwing the football around and my father ran to the door and shouted they just shot Oswald! Like what??? Are you kidding me? It was like a tragic real life soap opera. And the funeral, who could forget the funeral with the slow drum cadence and the horses and the hearse carrying the beloved dead President of the United States. Then there was little John John saluting at the grave site, either he was the bravest little kid in the world or he hadnt come to grips with the reality of the whole thing. I remember it all. I wasnt around for Pearl Harbor so that was my day of infamy. It like began a string of assassinations of Great Men. Before I end, I must mention that my next day of infamy was 9-11. Yep, that day changed my world as I knew it.
