I cant comprehend why bands/artists would sign away any much less 100 percent control of their material, publishing rights, master tapes. For some lousy record deals really . that desperate for a record deal to sell control of the material you worked so hard to create, busted your ass, spilt your blood, put your heart and soul into to create just for a record deal. Well Music to me is more important than some lousy record deal. No way in hell I would give up control or even 1 percent control over my material, publishing, master tapes. not even if I was homeless , starving to death and the labels offered 90 million tax free. per album. I got morals, values, and honor that I will never compromise. Yes some has family to take care of I can understand somewhat of that but still yet honor, morals, values, overrides anything. if you compromise those, where will you stop. Just look how the labels control these pop artists. and how they fear to stand up because they may lose their record deal. thats pathetic. IF you really cared about the material you create and you want to put out something then stand up for it. Example of this is the Pop/ dance whatever star Kesha. She had a song turned down by her label from her last album do to it not fitting the dance pop stuff she is known for, said it was to rock oriented. but she stated in a interview wanting to do a metal album. then there is a portion of her fan base who is petitioning to get her released from her producer/record label head Dr. lukes grasp saying he is too controlling, not allowing her to do music she wants. I though people got into doing music to the music that they loved to do and NOT to be forced into do music they dont. When did the musicians/artists just cave in and say ok tell us what type of song you want us to do next bullshit. I cant do that. The music has to hit me with emotion, has to mean something to me. If it something that someone else wants and Im not feeling it, Im not doing it period. Time for the artist and musicians to stand up and say we will not be pushed into performing, creating music that we dont want to. Yes there will still be those who cowardly to stand up cause they cherish their record deal more than their music, integrity, Honor, Morals, values, etc. But there will those who care more about the integrity of their music and what they create to be allowed to be told what type of song you can or cant have on your album or what type of music you can or cant make. I have no problems with Labels suggesting certain things or certain songs or types of music but in the end it should be directly up to the artist or band. let them succeed or fail on their own merits. I will never give up even 1 percent of rights to my material, or future master tapes nor will have give up any publishing in fact I will do all the publishing myself of my material.
