I cant seem to shake this off...and I hardly post things controversial on Facebook. But I feel that some comments made on 50 Haka Moments last night about Raimona, from Ngā Pōtiki a Hinehopu, were unjust and utterly disrespectful. There were hardly any comments made about his well being after this incident, no consideration as well about his feelings, and how these comments may affect his kids and wider whānau. Something a lot of people are unaware of is that he has been a major trailblazer in terms of mau rākau in Te Arawa. Kids in Rotorua and nationally aspire to be him, kids exhaust their energy to mimic him and his love for things Māori find him in roles where he can create a better tomorrow for his people. Since a young age Raimona has dedicated his life to the revitalisation of Te Reo Māori, and especially mau rākau in Te Arawa. But, unfortunately, some feel they have the authority to judge a stalwart in my iwi based on a 30min performance, which was sadly televised. E kare mā, is the whakamā he suffered on the day not enough to satisfy our needs? Or, must we revisit this incident just incase he forgot about it? Kātahi rā! Ki te māia te tangata ki te whiu i te kupu hahani, kia māia hoki ia ki te pōhiri i te utu o taua kupu! Kia piki te ora ki a koe, e Rai. Nāku, nā tētahi kua roa e whakaaweawehia ana e koe i roto i ngā tau. Tū, tū, taiaha hā!
