I cast my mind back to when we signed Lambert. Great, I thought, a plan B ! All this talk of diamonds, and flipping the diamond. Opposition teams are now well aware of this. I thought, Lambert, good old fashioned centre forward. Laying the ball off with his back to goal. Then I found a flaw (or two) Firstly, you need to receive the ball with your back to goal and secondly, you have to have someone to lay off to. I must admit, I find the way Brendan perseveres with only striker does perplex me. It didnt work with Balotelli (but then that is a whole new conversation) and it doesnt work with Lambert. Two forwards keep at least 3 of the opposition defenders busy. I keep trying to tell myself that he is the Manager and he knows what he is doing. Perhaps I am too optimistic. Only time will tell. I keep saying that there are so many young, new players that they need time. In the normal case of things, they would be introduced one at a time. However, due to injuries, they have been introduced too soon and have at times seemed quite vulnerable. Harping back to our U19s last week. They all knew what they were doing, where they should be placed and they knew, without looking, where their team mates would be. This comes with playing almost the same team, time and time again. This hasnt happened with the first team - yet. Due to injuries (and I know I shouldnt use that as an excuse) we havent been able to play the same back four. 7 of Chelseas team have been ever present this Season. That must be a big plus. That and playing with confidence. It will come, but unfortunately do we have the time to wait? I havent given up hope but it is all a bit worrying. SRC
