I celebrate an anniversary of sorts today...on this day in 1974, I went with some friends to Lake Travis to party and picnic...we decided to go swimming near the boat ramp. After peeling off our shirts and shoes, I was going to dive off a rock about 4 ft above the water. Just before I jumped, my friend Kevin popped up and I dove to his right...my head struck a big rock on the bottom. I had shoulder length hair then, and when I stood up, the weight of my hair had pulled open a C shaped cut on my scalp, and I actually touched my skull underneath. Blood was streaming down my face, and I heard little girls screaming on the shore, I must have looked horrible. They drove me to Brackenridge Hospital, about 30 miles away. I was never unconcious during the entire incident. I shifted the top two vertebrae in my neck slightly, and it took 120 stitches to close the wound on my scalp. I have a permanent dent in my skull, and other than that, I noticed no ill effects otherwise. Please be safe and ALWAYS check the water before diving in.
