I come to you for protection, O LORD my God. Save me from my persecutors--rescue me! Psalm 7:1 I think its human nature to look for buddies any time we have enemies. We typically look for people who will sympathize with us whenever we are at odds with someone. It almost feels unbearable not to have someone on your side during conflicts. Besides, you need others who will vouch for your innocence and some who will even defend you as necessary. Sadly, we are also prone to telling our side of the story to people who are not involved in the problem, forgetting that God is more concerned about you than anyone else. Its tragic, I think, that we would rather seek comfort, strength, and help from others instead of coming to the Lord first. In Psalm 7, David is once more facing people who are bent on seeing him suffer and die. During every instance where he was on the run, there had been many others who would join him whether he was running away from Saul or from his own son, Absalom. He may have lost some friends but he still had many supporters. Yet heres David seeking the protection and deliverance that can only come from the Lord. He knew that people can fail him as many had done countless times before. Because of this, he did not rely as much on people as he did on the Lord. Besides, men have limited resources while the Lords is unlimited. I dont know of any person who has never had enemies in his life. From the time we were young to the time we get old, there will always be people who we will bump heads with whether intentionally or unintentionally. Sometimes, we get into quarrels with our own brothers and sisters in Christ, too. But for as long as you are innocent of their accusations, and you have acknowledged your part in the conflict, the Lord will be with you to support and rescue you. Though the context of Romans 8:32-34 was written for our assurance that we are justified in Gods eyes, it also underscores the fact that we are not Gods enemies and therefore, we are now on His side. It says, He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. If you need the Lord to be your Deliverer, you can trust Him to rescue you. Your part is to not take revenge and let the Lord defend you. As your Deliverer, you can count on Him to save you. More than anything, He wants to see you develop maturity as you go through these conflicts. At the proper time, you will see His deliverance and know that in circumstances such as these, He is all that you need.
