I consider this three part documentary that screened on SBS to be the first time in 200+ years that black & white have truly met face to face.... 6 white people with strong racist(?) views based on half truths and sincere ignorance have their beliefs challenged not by indigenous anger or abuse but by meeting real indigenous people in their homes in towns & in the bush, many at work ,some in squalor & a few in jail. The indigenous people who for the most part are better educated or at least wiser than the white people gently explain their culture & the reasons for its disrepair ... They do this whilst showing great respect for their white visitors even as they are often insulted.... To their eternal credit as they learn more the pale faced adventurers (minus one) begin to question long held prejudices and the heartfelt shame they express will warm the heart of the most hardened cynic.....Now this may sound cheesy & overwrought but as I watched these Australian people affectionately embracing the word reconciliation sprung to mind. Not the six syllable political football but a simple verb, a doing word...People from the same island getting together & standing as one......Watch this & learn something really valuable.
