I could not sleep last night because I was so excited about Babe. I have had vehicles before that were not running and fixed the problem. I was a mechanic once, but my area of expertise was brakes and front end. I can build transmissions also with a manual if Im not familiar with a particular model. However, never, have I ever gotten a dormant for 12 years motor running on my own with just a few wrenches and a ratchet. She was running for a few seconds after dumping fuel in the carb but would not continue. I was excited then. Then I turned the key and there was a clunk. My heart sank. I thought maybe the engine locked up. But I decided to get a new starter and see if that worked. I was discouraged and unsure. I almost did not go back to fix it. However, tenacity being my focus word for the new year, I decided to go ahead and change out the starter. After that simple task was completed, I hooked up the battery and turned the key. I was relieved to see the motor turn over, meaning the block was not locked up. Then I pushed the gas pedal twice and she came to life again. I revved her for about 3 seconds then let off the gas. I expected her to stall, but she kept running. I know that this is just the beginning for her, but Damn. As I said before, this is the first time ever, that I resurrected a motor by myself with just a few simple tools. I am extremely proud of myself right now. I cant wait to get her on the road.
