I couldnt have slept tonight if I had not followed the home of my friend, Mr. Ralph, to its new location. It is a nice new neighborhood two blocks off 32nd Street and two blocks from the Esplanade Mall. Mr. Ralph would be pleased. Mr. Ralph was a WWII vet. A hero in my eyes. After I pulled him from the flood waters of Katrina, we were bound souls. I drove him and the others to my Mom’s house. As we pulled into her driveway she cried and fell to her knees. She had been very worried that we had stayed for the storm. She took everyone in and fed them. Later Mr. Ralph said, “I don’t know where they took me, but there was a bunch of cows and they fed me good.” After the storm, When Mr. Ralph and I would see each other our eyes would light up. We were always happy to chat. When I walked down the block, I knew Mr. Ralph would be sitting in his kitchen near the window. I also knew when he saw me he would come to his front door. I always waited for him to get to the door. After his wife passed we talked often. He loved her so much. I am glad that the home they shared for so many years has found a new family.
