I debated on posting this for awhile, because generally the media is accused daily of trying to spread mass hysteria and that is NOT at all what I want to do. *So heres the disclaimer: I am posting this from a personal stand-point, not a direct warning or representation from 7News.* I was napping on my couch when I heard a knock at the door, about 2:00 in the afternoon. People rarely knock on our door so it caught me off guard to begin with. I looked outside and didnt see anyone, so I thought maybe they were knocking longer than I realized and gave up. But then I heard it again.. I couldnt see anyone so I was curious and went down to see. I opened the door to a man with a book bag and a bottle of cleaner He came up closer to me and proceeded to go into a long sales pitch of this miracle cleaner he was talking fast and doing a demonstration. I immediately had an uneasy feeling. People just dont do door-to-door sales anymore. (SIDE NOTE: my dad was a door-to-door salesman for the better part of my early years, I know there was a time when this was a way to make a life, but its just rare anymore) I found a point to cut him off and give him a thanks but no thanks and sent him packin. Well the more I thought about it, the more it bothered me. I watched him continue to go all through my neighborhood, and I can tell you that he wasnt getting much response at that time of day. I can say that I know in my neighborhood, you are NOT allowed to solicit... Even though the man insisted he had a business license and was allowed to be doing what he was doing. I just wanted anyone who lives in the Bethlehem area to be aware of this. I also know that the police were contacted and were aware of his presence yesterday as well.. I think its because I work in the news, that I am constantly surrounded by the horror stories and can let my mind go places it shouldnt. But if I bit my tongue and didnt share this and GOD FORBID something happened that I couldve prevented, Id feel awful. I hope I didnt incite any sort of panic, but awareness is always the first step to stopping a problem from happening.
