I deleted the last post about gamer SWATting because it turned out to be false. While I still believe it can be useful as subject material to speculate on and discuss, I think too many people were taking it as factual and sharing it, perpetuating the falsehood, even after I posted the Snopes debunk article. I sometimes post about topics that catch my interest, and even though I wouldnt claim to be any kind of meticulous news reporter, I try to make sure what I am posting is truthful, or at least, if not, obvious enough that people can see through it. Propaganda and spin are unfortunately the majority component of most news these days, so my take on it is more often an observation about presentation rather than the information itself. I find the spin and social consequences of mass media to be quite fascinating. However, I do find myself sometimes falling for a fake news story now and then. It usually happens when I choose a side (something to note for those who would consider me a fence sitter). Although reading something on non-mainstream sources should be a red flag enough to at least double check facts, I dont particularly give a lot of weight to mainstream news media either (my apologies to my friends who work in it). In its defence though, mainstream news at least tends to at least get the facts correct, if not still adding spin or bias to the interpretation.
