I did an interview earlier today and want to share it with you. =) Here it is, the interview was for this Facebook page: https://facebook/pages/Depression-Macabre-Darkness/287419374746227 1. When and how did you come up with the idea to make music and publish it on youtube? To make music was never an idea I came up with, it was something that I felt inside of me through my whole life. So I started to compose music because it was a deep urge I had, I needed it to express my feelings. To publish it on YouTube was something that started after I made the soundtrack for an amateur movie and uploaded the songs on my channel so that my friends could listen to them. I never thought it would ever turn into ANYTHING.^^ 2. How did you decided to make many kinds of music such as world music and not to concentrate only to dark, gothic and metal music? It wasn’t a real decision either, I just want to express myself in music universally and not to be chained to only one or two genres. It would be terribly boring for me, if not suffocating. I see something unique and beautiful in every genre of music, because every genre is the expression of unique emotions and thoughts. It is also a kind of adventure to try out new styles, it feels like exploring new worlds. But the main reason why I make so many kinds of music is because the human soul is far too complex as to express all its depths in only one style, one mood. There is happiness, sadness, fear, anger, everything imaginable. And since I express my soul with music I need many different genres in order to be able to express everything that is... me. Everything that is human. 3. Did you only study music? What are your studies? I never studied music.^^ Everything that I know about music is from experience and intuition, I have no clue about music theory. I actually didn’t even finish school, I dropped out at the age of 15 and worked as a gardener and other things. I don’t have any diplomas, nothing. I do study a lot at home though, especially about etymology, ancient history and mythology. 4. What is your opinion on the attitude that music companies have towards new musicians? I don’t give much attention to music companies in general, because I don’t want to join any of them and don’t really care what they do. But from what I see around I think the entire music industry is based far too much on making as much money as possible, hence commercializing the artists, instead of supporting music as an actual form of ART. That leads to the existence of a million copy-paste „art“ around the world and that attitude is being promoted, while truly creative and unique artists get overlooked. So the attitude towards new artists is first and foremost about: will they be commercially useful or not? And that attitude is the death of art. 5. From where do you get your inspiration? From everything and everywhere, there is no secret source.^^ Ideas simply flow into my mind like from an invisible river, I really can’t explain it in a better way. I have no idea where the river comes from but I’m happy it’s there. xD 6. How do you feel that now you have so many fans? I don’t like the word fan, it creates a border between the one that makes music and the one who listens to it. So I always treat everyone as I treat a friend, and that makes the entire journey with my music 100x more beautiful, because it really feels like a community. =) I honestly don’t feel any different than I did before, only happier. I think one big reason is exactly because I always kept it personal with everyone, that lead to the result that even though the number is very high now everyone still treats me the same way as they did at the beginning, and I do the same.^^ 7. What is your favourite of your songs and why? I don’t have one favourite song, what I like to listen to depends strongly on my own mood so it always changes. But there are some that are more personal than any other songs, for example Angel Tears, Innocence or Aeternitas. 8. How do you want to be when you make music? Alone or with your beloved wife? Congratulations also for you two! =) Thank you! xD I always thought that I make the best music when I’m completely alone, but when I met Carina it changed. Now I am convinced that the best songs are only possible when she is near me. 9. What would you like to say to people with depression, as this is one theme of the page? I have also suffered from serious depressions, when I was a teenager, and I know how they feel. The worst thing about depression is not the darkness itself that’s in your mind, but the belief that this darkness will never leave again and that it will drown you. But that is not true. That is the most important thing I can tell anyone who suffers from this: It is not true, it can be beaten. And no matter how you see your own self, you are a thousand times stronger than you think you are. 10. Where would you like to travel? I can notice a big love for traveling and such. That’s true, yes. xD I would like to travel the whole world, but a few countries have really a special meaning to me, among them Iceland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the entirety of Scandinavia. 11. Is your life the same with the life you had before going popular for your music skills? Oh I think I accidentally already answered that one. xD It’s still really almost the same.^^ I still live the same way, talk the same way, look the same and feel the same. Just happier, that’s it. =) 12. Do you think that someone must be pretty on the outside so people can appreciate his soul, mind and personality? Absolutely not. I would even say that if someone can’t appreciate a person’s soul because he doesn’t view his exterior as pretty he never even truly searched for that person’s soul. He was never interested in it in the first place. I think a person’s soul is also what makes a person beautiful on the outside, because a beautiful soul shines through the superficiality of the outside appearance. The only one who doesn’t see that beauty is someone who is chained to the world of the superficial and therefore blind to what is of real importance. 13. What do you like amd what dont you like from our planet at this time? I love nature and the human mind. I hate the human mind. 14. How can you imagine yourself in many years from now? Living in a little house with nature around, with Carina as my wife, a beautiful baby and a big, cuddly dog. xD And of course doing what I do now, making music and writing. =) That would be all I could wish for in life.
