I did not hear of the (reportedly unarmed) teenager shot (reportedly ten times) to death in Ferguson today (reportedly while walking down the street with a friend) by a police officer until I was driving home from work tonight. Theres not much facts out there about it, yet. Heres what I do know: today a group of kids had a Build-A-Bear birthday party and brought their new bears over next to where I was sitting to get out cupcakes and sing Happy Birthday. While they were getting set up, one kid, maybe seven years old, was playing with his cop bear, which had a badge and hat and little aviator sunglasses. Another kid, probably five, came over with what I thought was like a Ninja Turtle bear or something, but it was a robber, I figured out. They were playing with them together; fighting them (which means steering them side to side in front of the other and making psh psh sounds). Youre bad. Im taking you in. says cop bear. Ill get away. says robber bear. A mother interrupts them, No. Dont fight them. What happened if you disobey the police? They shoot you. says cop bear. Meanwhile, across town...
