I didnt sleep much, kept thinking about a young woman I represented at an ESA appeal yesterday. She had worked full time since leaving school, became a victim of cancer and lost the use of the arm and hand she writes with, she also has Bells Palsy which has changed her appearance and self conscienceness. She is the mother of two small children and the partner of a caring man. She had been found fit for work and scored zero points at a Work Capability Test. The appeal was adjourned for further medical evidence. She wept during the appeal and I felt like weeping with her. I know its important to protect public money, but in the Public Accounts Committee, not a week goes by without reports of tens of millions of public money wasted by Government Departments, Quangos and the Great and the Good. It seems to me that Public money is only really protected when the ordinary public are likely to get their hands on it. To be frank the process yesterday was humiliating and made me feel ashamed! :(
