I didn’t get home from work on Friday until 6:30 but I had a very nice birthday dinner. I like to drink wine while I cook so I opened a Chateauneuf-du-Pape, one of my favorites from southeastern France and one of the most blended wines in the world. We were having sirloin steak and both Southern Living and Food & Wine had similar recipes for sirloin so I decided to try one. Southern Living called it “Cowboy Steak”. You cook the steaks in a cast iron pan on the grill. A couple minutes before their done, you add butter, thyme, rosemary, oregano and garlic to the pan and continue to spoon it over the steaks until done. They were great and I will definitely make it again. I also made my salt and vinegar potatoes along with stir fried green beans and peppers. I will be glad to make this for anyone who visits and I also take special request. Dinner and wine is on me but you have to get here. Starting today (28 September) I will be working 7 days a week until Thanksgiving so no visitors until then.
