I disagree with the assertion that black folks dont express as much outrage at black on black homicide as we do when the perpetrator is not black. First off, how are you defining outrage? Looting, burning buildings and similar acts should not be the barometer of our outraged at incidents like Micheal Brown - those that loot tend to be people merely taking advantage of the situation for their personal gain - loot the weave store? loot the liquor store? loot the foot locker because you are outraged by Micheal Brown? If their were truly displaying outraged they wouldnt do so by copping the latest pair of Jordans 2) Lets not act like we dont know why there isnt as much outrage about black on black violence. Its called dont snitch - We overlook shit everyday; we know who the shooters are! We know who stole the car! We know who jumped that boy/girl. We know who robbed that house! We know who stole that old ladies purse. WE KNOW. WE KNOW WE KNOW - maybe we dont report crimes because of our distrust of the police. Maybe we dont because those are our folks? Maybe we dont because we dont want to get involved. But before we call people out about not being outraged by black on black murders, we need to be outraged at ourselves about the day to day black on black sh*t we tolerate everyday. 3) There actually is outraged at black on black crime but unless your only source of information is World Star Hip Hop or Facebook you would think folks arent outraged at black on black homicide. I could list groups/organizations across the county in every city that are doing work everyday to address black on black. CNN, MSNBC , Fox or ABC isnt there covering it but its happening. 4) Finally there can be simultaneous conversations about both. Malcolm X. talked about our own self-destructive tendencies while calling out white America. I never worry about the next mans actions (or lack of action) I only worry about what I am doing. Peace
