I do not mean to suggest that Mr. Zimmerman had this social engineering in mind. It was uncritical racism, arrogance, and personal stupidity, that led him to his troubles with the law. A plea of self-defense has allowed him to escape legal responsibility which leaves us all to work out the moral responsibility as a people. The moral vacuum that is left by this trial is now filled with the following social result and situation. One that has been tested in a Florida court. In Florida you may form armed vigilante groups. Your group may profile and stalk individuals. If you can provoke violence, which meets the legal criteria of self-defense, you may kill them. Where does this end at it stands today? Given that it was a black teenager killed in this particular instance, where does that leave the black community in the state of Florida? Should that community form armed vigilante groups to protect their children who walk in other neighborhoods than their own? America needs to think very carefully about the direction of the State of Florida right now and where this hand washing and hiding in the letter of the law is taking us ... please tell me where does this end?
