I dont care how much everyone might disagree with me on this, but this is one person (of many) who acted on the rejection they received from loved ones. When you reject your childs identity, you are hurting them; you become your childs first bully. Gender identity isnt a choice, but how we embrace our loved ones is. There is a significantly high suicide rate amongst people whose gender identity is not accepted; there is also a dramatic number of these people who default to substance abuse. I was reading some of Omars paper on gender differences among suicide rates- 41% of transgender and gender-nonconforming people have attempted suicide. Not just thought about it; attempted it. When youre a parent, you are your childs first everything- lover, supporter, teacher, friend. Do nothing but love your children as fiercely as you can. Please.
