I dont get this. From the days of Rawlings through Kufour to Mills, none of the ambitious railway projects have been realised due to poor project conception. These governments allowed themselves to be MISLED by their lack of attention to detail and by shadowy and pretentious project financiers. Then we had a 400-acre Boankra Inland Port waiting for funds to be executed. Under the current scheme of things, this adminsitration risks adding its rail way project (needing some $1bn) to the dustbin of badly conceived projects. But shouldnt we ask if we have done an assessment of the amount of cargo on these railway lines? Is the railway the ONLY way to get any cargo beyond Ghana into the land locked countries? What about Togo and Ivory Coast? Dont they also cart cargo to the land locked countries? Wouldnt they be doing better with time when their economies get fixed? What about the Volta Lake? Why are we not serious about developing the Volta Lake transport plan by buying heavy duty ferries? The Lake doesnt need any laying of expensive tracks? Do they?
