I dont have a problem with this. I know many reactionaries flipped out, comparing this statement to 1984. First, I dont think they have read 1984. Second, Mrs. Obama is asking for NON-governmental action. This is new to the Obamas, obviously, and I dont support any of the Presidents governmental initiatives, but she is asking children to speak up to their parents when they disagree. I have no problem with changing societal mores by peer pressure. (a) It works much better than hare-brained governmental schemes, and (2) it does not violate any Constitutional principles (like many of the Obama and Bush administrations moves have). “There’s no court case against believing in stereotypes or thinking that certain kinds of hateful jokes or comments are funny. So the answers to many of our challenges today can’t necessarily be found in our laws. Perhaps she should give this same talk to her husband.
