I dont know if anyone other than Mike Mead has followed This American Life on Saturday, but I believe every single person needs to listen to this story. Its the intersection of education, religion, race, democracy, demographics, geography, and how the world can spiral out of hand. Its about a school board. A board currently made up of a majority of Hasidim in a school system that none of their students attend - yet they are required to pay taxes for those schools. So, they take over the board and change the reality for that community. I tend not to post things that could cause argument - its just bad business for my usual non sequiturs, baby pictures, and comic inconclusions. But this is it - this is complex, full of right and wrong, and the determinations that arise from this (when concluded) SHOULD change the way we operate as a country. Or, business as usual.
