I dont know the facts of todays shooting in Paris, and I dont know the history of the satirical paper whose offices were attacked. What I do know is that there is a great deal of knee jerk talk in response to this attack about the dangers of satire. These are dangerous waters. Freedom of speech means that what you say is free to be subject to criticism and debate; it does *not* mean that said criticism is allowed to take the form of a bullet to the head. This was a tragedy and a horrifying failure of humanity. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families, and it is my sincere hope that the perpetrators of this act are brought to justice. Meanwhile, lets stay away from victim blaming, please.
