I dont know what the folks over at Websters have to say but the way I see it the word compromise means nobody involved gets what they actually want. As in Mr. and Nrs. Jones are going to have to compromise on color for the exterior of their home. Mrs. Jones will not get a pink home and Mr. Jones will not get a beige one. (This definition has been modified from my old definition which was: compromise means Mrs. Jones caves in and does whatever Mr. Jones wants. This edit was made because Mrs. Jones realized that life is much longer than she had previously imagined.)
