I dont know why Universals Curse of the Undead (1959) has been so - TopicsExpress

I dont know why Universals Curse of the Undead (1959) has been so hard to see, considering that this western-horror tale is one of the best they ever made. The film-makers try hard to satisfy both western and horror elements and, to everyones great surprise, succeed completely. Drawing on older, European legends about vampires, the monster in this one is gunfighter Drago Robles (an excellent Michael Pate) who relies on his imperviousness to gunfire to make a living as a hired gun. He became a vampire by killing his brother, for love of his brothers wife, and then committed suicide, becoming one of the undead because of this mortal sin. Preacher Eric Fleming discovers the truth and must overcome his peace-loving ways to take on the monster. Simply one of the best vampire movies ever made, this delves into the psychology of the unfortunate victim of the disease. Irving Gertzs theremin-heavy score is a little over the top but serves the purpose of always keeping the horror elements present to us, like a creepy hand on the back of ones neck. Seriously recommended and in dire need of a complete DVD or Blu-ray release. https://youtube/watch?v=nZ8ZDvEVVRY
