I dont know why anyone is surprised about this? Surely anyone who crochets knows there are risks to developing and marketing patterns that are imitating characters. Not only by Disney but many companies who produce other trademarked and licensed characters. This really upsets crocheters when they learn this information but I think the internet has been around long enough that we need to ensure we understand the rules of copyright, trademarks and licensing before thinking its okay for us to knock off characters. I know people first hand who intentionally knock off the characters and sell them willing to assume the risk but then end up crying foul when they are discovered and loose everything they have built up. If you were to create a character or make something unique and other people came along and started to knock off your product and selling it for their own benefit, you would be in the same situation as Disney and reacting the same way. They are not being bullies, they are protecting what is rightfully theirs. If it wasnt for their movies or creations, the ideas of Olaf and other characters wouldnt be popular, nor even a concept. Lets have perspective.
