I dont like this idea. Over the past two decades electoral - TopicsExpress

I dont like this idea. Over the past two decades electoral officers have added advance voting days and made it possible to vote in polling stations other than the one in your neighborhood. The result has been consistent ... lower voter turnout. The correlation is clear and undeniable. The easier we make voting the less people vote. Its counter intuitive, but I am certain voter turnout would increase if we made it harder to vote. Were dealing with psychology. If something is scarce, people want it. Returning to a single election day would increase the sense of occasion. It would focus all the ad dollars on one event and it would create a sense of urgency. Advance voting should return to the old rules, which required voters to sign a affidavit stating they would not be available to vote or had another legitimate excuse. The advance polls should not be as common or as well advertised. I am 100% confident this would work. If you doubt me, look at Apple Computers. They manufacture plenty of iPhones. But they always work hard to create the myth of scarcity. People line up to buy the phones, even though there are plenty for everyone.
