I dont normally post overt partisan political messages on this page but I would like to make an exception for the issues surrounding the Chandler Highway bridge. This bridge was built in the 19th Century (no joke), the train line that it was built for closed in the 1890s. This bridge was not designed to carry cars but has been doing so for a very long time. The lack of action to duplicate the bridge, even though the traffic levels are increasing exponentially, shows how successive governments in Melbourne have been giving the green light to medium density developments without investing in the improved infrastructure required for the associated population increases. If Northcote and surrounding suburbs are going to maintain their accessibility via car and bike to the rest of Melbourne, the Chandler Highway bridge needs money spent on it, and soon.
