I dont often remember what I was doing a year ago to the day, but I do this year. A year ago yesterday (26th) the consultants advised us that my wifes first transplant (liver) of only 2 weeks had lost one of its blood supplies and that she would need to be re listed as her liver was failing. She had been diagnosed with PBC after the birth of our daughter. A year ago today we got the news that they had found another liver and that they would do another transplant on the 28th (tomorrow). Her second transplant didnt go well and there were a number of life threatening issues during the operation. Well a year on and we were out cycling as a family for the first time down the town park. What a difference a year makes. If you had said to me that wed be out as a family cycling in a year Id have said youre having a laugh!!!! Anyway, a year on and Maureen is doing FAB and were now enjoying normal family life. I cant express enough my thanks to the donors that ultimately sacrificed all, but had foresight to be donors to save others. Needless to say that all my family are now on the donor list as we know how this can change others lives as it as done ours. If youve not already done so consider donating as it can and will change someone elses life. I know as it has changed ours.
