I dont post alot on Alyssa LaFrancis s matches with over a hundred matches a year it can get overwhelming but last night was a great night for her . She had a great match with Kendal Reusing. It was only Alyssas 5th match since ankle reconstruction after having been off the mat for 8 months. Kendall is a great athlete and filled in for Alyssa all spring and summer by winning Fargo, Fargo OW, all three nationals, folkstyle and freestyle and was the World Team Trials winner (the spot Alyssa has held for the previous two years) at Alyssas weight. Kendall is a tough young lady. As a Dad there were a lot of reasons not to take this match right now. If Alyssa was going to lose this season it was going to be now while she was still getting her rhythm back and getting in shape. I encouraged her to wait a few weeks but she wanted the match and Kendall wanted the match and so it was made. Alyssa is a Champion and Im never afraid to admit I was wrong. Alyssa wrestled with class and even gave her opponent multiple opportunities to fix her headgear rather than getting cheap points as she called it. She held back her normal aggressive style as she said she wanted it to be clean and she didnt want to leave any doubt. She just plain beat her. Alyssa was up 5-0 going into the third gave up 2 one point stalling calls in the last minute shes says because she could. Wise beyond her years. I learned a lot from her last night. Very proud of my girl and I know now she has outgrown me as a coach and guide on this journey. I look forward to being a spectator and parent as she continues to grow. You can see in the video it was the match of the night in a tournament with almost 400 girls wrestling. Alyssas finals match was at 9 pm after being up since 4 am. Everyone in the stands came down to the floor and stood four and five deep. After becoming the first girl to win three state titles last year I am looking forward to state and her shot at a 4th California State Title which would not only make her the first girl to win four but only the 2nd boy or girl in California history to win four. #Chasinghistory #ladylonghorns youtu.be/Pm_xWqA59_k
