I dont really consider myself a social-activist, but when I was on - TopicsExpress

I dont really consider myself a social-activist, but when I was on the phone with my mom, I told her that with all that has been going in the world, I had to be extra careful with the actions that I did. I could not wear my hood when I went outside, I shouldnt be in certain places by myself, I have to change my vernacular to fit the mold around me, and I had to sometimes try to look as innocent as possible when I am even on campus to make sure that I do not frighten anyone. My mom did not understand why I had to do that, but my dad did and he nodded his head in acknowledgement. He told her, He can be shot if he gives them any reason that he is a threat. No matter what, he is black. Being black in America makes his life in danger every time he wakes up and walks outside that door. However you feel, politically or not, color or not, a child has lost his life and his body laid in a pool of blood for 4.5 hours before anybody came to the scene. One of the biggest fears I have in my life is that one day, my mom will get a phone call and hear that one of her sons died and that there was nothing that she can do. To my brothers and sisters, from all creeds, please be careful tonight. In these times, please stand in solidarity and in peace. These are the reasons that we have to fight these social structures that cause harm to communities and break down this fear that the darker your sin is the more dangerous you are. There is too much blood shed of black people in America for this to be the Land of the Free. The shackles are still on and taking lives of our young people. My prayers go out to the families of Mike Brown and other families who have lost loved ones to gun violence and police brutality. #PrayforMikeBrownFamily #JusticeforMikeBrown
