I don’t normally do this sort of thing but I feel compelled to have my say on a subject I feel very strongly about. Sorry it’s lengthy, I hope you’ll bear with me. In recent weeks I have been alarmed by the large number of my FB friends who have been liking and sharing Britain First posts. Britain First are trying – and succeeding - to dupe unsuspecting people into following their hate group. In between Islamophobic rants and immigration lies, Britain First intersperse images that the majority of people agree with (posts decrying animal cruelty, anti-paedophilia, support our troops/football team, dont leave dogs in hot cars ...) so that ordinary people get hooked in to following their page. They do this in the name of ‘patriotism’ – these people are not patriots, they are thugs, racists, homophobes: in short fascists, they do not support our armed forces – on the contrary they uphold beliefs and ideals that our servicemen and women died trying to protect us from. Britain First was founded by Jim Dowson, a Christian fundamentalist. Although they claim to be Christian I doubt they have a Christian bone in their body or a truly Christian thought in their heads – they are an extreme right wing movement , preaching hatred every bit as vile and as dangerous as any Muslim fundamentalist movement. Please take the time to google them and arm yourself with as much info as you can so that you are fully aware who you are supporting. You may agree with Britain First, and this is your choice – after all it is at present still a free country thanks to the people who fought and continue to fight against Fascism. If you agree with me then please spread this message to prevent others being conned by Britain First. There is a lot of shit on FB – I always take the time to research things before I click on, or share posts. I have been ‘unfriended’ by someone recently for suggesting he did just that; a bit sad but maybe we didn’t really have that much in common after all and I can’t say I’m sorry to lose the constant stream of racist British First posts cluttering up my newsfeed. If I end up losing a few more because of this so be it. Lets keep FB a friendly place to visit. Don’t let Britain First turn it into a platform for their hate campaigns and extreme right wing politics. Thank you x
