I don’t typically use such a public platform to address things that are impacting on me personally but I feel forced to set straight some aggressive innuendo. When someone makes a decision in business to restructure, shut down or move on – it inevitably prompts gossip and rumours. I didn’t expect it to be so personal and in many respects inaccurate. I am approaching this in a very generalized way, directed at no one in particular in an effort to offer some insight to anyone who feels they need it. To repeat what I publically announced – I started out in business at 17 years of age, fresh out of high school and ready to share a passion. This very quickly evolved into an all-consuming venture with such a diverse and complex array of activities, responsibilities, achievements and success. It has been a wonderful, exciting and satisfying ride but, unfortunately…not sustainable. It requires enormous energy. I love it, but the business side of the current structure is overwhelming. I was forced to learn as I went and have always done what I thought was right. One of the things I try and live by and encourage others is in, is to do what you are passionate about. To not practice these principles is hypocritical. Business and financial management is not my thing. I needed to simplify this. My decisions around the new business structure were not all business and financial related. The underlying reason was to pursue and focus on my own creative career and what I love and am good at. My main focus is always dance and providing the BEST programs and training as possible for students, choreographers and teachers. I believe that I have done this successfully but I am also not ashamed to say that being in business is hard. I have made mistakes. Professionals have given me poor guidance. I’ve learnt the hard way that there is very little personalized formal support and education in running a business. I have been naive – not knowing what you don’t know until you are in it. I have chased my tail trying to keep up with all facets of the business. But NOONE but myself will be affected by any mistakes I have made. I am only ever proactive in having everyone’s best interests at heart (which often doesn’t work in my favour) and seek out the right guidance and support to do things differently at every failure or challenge. You will always find that with every decision I have to make for myself, I am pursuing even better opportunities for you as well. I do believe things happen for a reason and new opportunities, pathways and adventures open up with fresh wisdom and a good attitude. LIVE and LEARN – that’s REAL life and that is REAL business. I am actually not superhuman. You don’t become successful knowing everything straight away. You become successful by learning! For all the rumours and hurtful gossip be reassured that much of your assumptions are untrue. It does not affect you. It is not your business to assess. It is not your right to assume I am not doing the right thing by anyone. If only you knew! If you are concerned in any way that I am doing something wrong by you personally and in that instance it is your right to involve yourself – please show me the respect of coming to me personally. I think anyone who is or has ever been in business can relate to how hard it is to work both in it and on it at the same time. I’m just trying to do something about it. Despite the person I clearly am and the objectives that have always been evident I feel sad that I am force to defend myself. I needed to do this so that I can move forward in providing the things you are happy to be a part of. I hope you can respect what I have done and will continue to do creatively. The spirit and passion and energy and environment I have nurtured throughout and how hard I have worked to provide what I have over the past 6 years.
