I doubt all 18 photos I have selected will post so I will try to track and post more separately. Today began with a good long walk down from Manor Brow to the heart of Keswick. And the goal was to devote the day to William Wordsworth. Mostly accomplished. Stopped in for A GOOD cup of coffee at Merienda restaurant where I enjoyed dinner two nights ago. Surfer dude owns and chefs here. Longtime and permanent resident of England now. Took bus ride on The 555 bus to Grasmere where Wordsworth family is buried together at St Oswalds church. Then a walk to Dove Cottage where he lived and wrote the famous daffodils poem (I wander lonely as a cloud) inspired by the spring daffodils along the lake. Toured the house. Its quite dark inside but the garden was worth a climb to reach the arbor where he often wrote with Dorothy. Then hopped the 599 to the next stop at Rydal Mount where he lived For 38 years including his stint as the only Poet Laureate of England who said hed take on the role if he didnt have to write. He edited and published while here and designed the impressively landscaped garden. dove cottage is a serious Mecca for poets to read. Robert Hass and Philip gross are coming in two weeks. They get HUNDREDS of attendees. Rydal Mount is beautiful and airy. Your guide was an intern from Las Vegas who attends BYU which has a lovely program for which he was the only student selected for this internship. After that back on the bus where I encountered five adorable college girls from Taiwan who convinced me I had to stop for the world famous Sarah Nelson gingerbread. Bought two but somehow accidentally tossed one cookie. Actually it slid out of the little bag. Back on the bus to Keswick where I waked to Lucas Ristorante next to the Greta River. Barrie was the bus driver from Tuesday. He saw and remembered me at the bus stop. Its almost midnight!! More tomorrow.
