I dropped in on Kent County Animal Rescue this evening. The story of Kia, as I posted previously, the dog who was left for an indeterminate amount of time in a basement with no food or water having survived (the term survived is being liberal) on her own waste struck me as one of the most inhumane situations I have yet to hear of. Who could possibly neglect/abuse a dog to this extent, and why? I had to visit Kia. Nicole was not in when I arrived, however, being in New Brunswick and when in Rome do as the Romans, I walked on in. Kia was not pleased with my arrival. She showed definite signs of watch dog, her tail remained between her legs and she growled. With that said, she did not approach me. I kept talking to her until she calmed down and rested on the sofa. As soon as she stood up I muttered, Holy *really bad word here, rhymes with luck! - . The pictures do not show the cruelty that this beautiful creature endured. She is a very independent dog that has her mind set to do her own thing. I highly doubt she had any training prior to her captivity. Once Nic arrived Kia knew that I was a welcomed visitor and her body language towards me changed completely. She and I went for a wee walk on the leash together. She responded quickly to a gentle pull back when she pulled. She is a very, very sweet and beautiful dog. :) Remember this is a week after her rehabilitation had started. I cannot fathom how she appeared previously! I am only posting a few photos now of her. I took so many, I really dont know where to start....
