I drove to my late night lecture tonight straight from a Scout - TopicsExpress

I drove to my late night lecture tonight straight from a Scout meeting. Still in uniform I gave my lecture. The night janitor saw the uniform and asked me my Troop. He was in the same Troop as a boy. This resulted in a several minute discussion, complete with talk of big trips that he took to Canada, awkward hugging, and him crying a little. To see a gentleman in his late 50s or early 60s breakdown over a connection to Scouting reminded me of why I am still a part of this organization. 45 years later he still remembered his Scoutmaster and the boys who came through the Troop with him. When he heard that I was from his old Troop he got goosebumps (his words) all of these years later. He even offered to help if the Troop ever needed anything. This has been a tough year for me in Scouting. Many of my wonderful friends are no longer a part of Scouting in the area for a variety of reasons. Bill helped to remind me of why my journey isnt over just yet. What a strange journey it is...
