I encountered a woman today that had her work uniform still on while in the supermarket. She was with a 10 yr old and a child maybe 4? I could see the stress on her face as she was hurrying down the aisles throwing things in her cart. As I was leaving she happened to be in front of me and her son touched the plants and by accident one of them fell.. Well, this woman completely lost it! I mean she exploded. Saying why the F%$& did you touch that? The poor kid had tears in his eyes as she kept on yelling at him. I understand that working moms are stressed , overworked and from what I could see looked like a single, working mom. My first reaction was to tell this lady what an asshole she was being because her childs tears really pissed me off but then I thought for a second about how stressed this woman probably is (not saying its an excuse) was just trying to look at it from a different perspective than straight up attack mode. As I was passing her to reach my car, I looked her dead in the eyes and I smiled. Her eyes instantly lightened up and she smiled back at me. She was suddenly quiet too. Just something as simple as a smile calmed this woman down in an instant. So maybe we should all learn to just smile at people ,Strangers, Family, Our spouse, children and even our pets because we just dont know what that simple smile can do for that person. We just dont know what others are going through and instead of judging, we should seek to understand.
