I enjoyed the Australia Day ceremony at Uralla and it was fantastic to see the community come out in numbers to support the celebration in the park. It was an absolute pleasure to talk with some of the SES volunteers and when I asked them why they volunteered with the SES they said, “Because I wanted something further to do in my community”. Our nation has some great attributes, we are egalitarian and we see people as they walk up to us. I congratulate all those who received Australia Day honours from the community of Uralla and to those who took the oath of citizenship. It’s a shame the rainstorm drove some people away, but it was a great celebration of what the community of Uralla represents.
