I expected that the Uttarakhand government would soon bring out a programme to be implemented on war footing. That they would start re planting trees and reforesting all of their hilly terrain, that they will ensure that the reservoirs of the dams will not be filled up at the first opportunity and there will always be spare capacity to arrest some of the waters of heavy monsoon rains, that the dams will not be only for Power Generation but also for controlling the flow of flood waters, that all roads built on the hillsides will be done in a much more scientific manner even if the cost may be much more, that towns, villages and houses will be constructed in areas fortified against land slides and not allow them on the river banks, that all habitations will be connected through satellite directly so that communication is not easily disrupted, that they will have a large force of helicopters stationed at various locations that can be mobilized quickly, so on and so forth. Even if they do have adequate resources immediately still they would chalk out a plan in earnest. But till now I am still waiting.
