I failed woefully today. I did not see it coming. The failure - TopicsExpress

I failed woefully today. I did not see it coming. The failure today further convinced me that followers always set up the leadership to consistently fail in Nigeria. I wear many hats. Figuratively, and expressively. One of my hats is being Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association of the United Missionary Comprehensive College (UMCC) Molete Ibadan, a Girls only Boarding School, jointly owned by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) and Methodist Church of Nigeria. If you have been worried about finding a girls school with sound moral teachings and academic excellence at a pocket-friendly rate, search no more. It is there in Ibadan and the project is Work-in-Progress. getting better by the day. We today commissioned a classroom block, CBT Exam room renovated by the PTA and an Industrial Bore-hole sunk by the PTA. Completed projects in 2014. We then inspected the progress of work on the Schools Sports Complex under construction, funded by the PTA. Having Chaired the Association for the past 5 years, mindful of the fact that it is my second term of 3 years, so constitutionally I can sit for another year, more mindful of the fact that my daughter will not leave the school for another 3 years (My first daughter graduated earlier), alarmed by the fact that by the end of the session, 3 of the 5 executive members will leave because their wards will graduate, seeing the need to assure continuity, I thought it right to step aside today because the ovation was loudest. After making a long speech on the need to avoid sit-tight leadership, and to show leadership by example, I proposed to step aside. The Principal did not waste time to dismiss my musings, and laid the grounds for pseudo-tenure elongation, supported by the membership. My appeal to the house on the need to groom the next generation of PTA leaders failed and my attempt to introduce elections into the Agenda at Any other Business was roundly defeated twice when I took voice votes. A parent whose ward just joined the school concluded by saying ... I was told they are enjoying you. I can now see at todays meeting how they have enjoyed you for 5 years, and I am hoping that we will enjoy you till my child leaves this school. I may have failed woefully to sell the idea today, it is a temporary setback, I will lobby before, and succeed at the next meeting, because that is the right thing to do. May God give Nigeria courageous leaders who will leave when the ovation is loudest.
