I feel I have to write on here in response to the rubbish - TopicsExpress

I feel I have to write on here in response to the rubbish appearing on the Mail website about the Story Homes proposals. First and foremost I am not and never have been a Nimby-I am not jealous and nor do I want to prevent anyone else from bettering their housing prospects. Some of the pseudonyms on the Mail site smack of being a put up job-Degsy, Blandroid and Cant wait all seem to have a similar mindset and are suspiciously very pro the plans-why the need for anonymity if you are genuine? People are missing the whole point-nobody is against better housing-the whole issue is location. There ARE other fields brown and green which would be more appropriate and less damaging than this one. I understand the farmers motivation in wanting to liquidate assets to support him in retirement-but not this field! Its TOO close to the Precinct wall and West Gate, it will increase run off and reduce soak away which will all travel downhill to the abbey, already inundated with water in winter and early spring! The whole field houses archaeological indicators-which need investigation. The measures Story Homes have put in to reduce number and impact are lip service to placate those who are more easily convinced. The pretty architects pictures are misleading and exaggerate the size and space. The drainage is insufficient. The heritage approach will be forever damaged. The reason I started the petition was because I love the abbey and as the (monstrosity-as one idiot termed it) support which is around the presbytery evidences the damage already done by 20th century building and drainage and tampering with the water courses. We at Furness Abbey Fellowship are working hard to ensure the abbey gets a new lease of life and becomes a visitor attraction to benefit the town-this urban development could sabotage this. I hope that I have clarified my real motivation in objecting to this-and I hope that many of you will continue to support us by expressing your doubts to the council before 9 . Interestingly the cruise ship passengers I had the pleasure to guide round the abbey a few weeks ago were stunned by its beauty, amazed by its lack of publicity and incredulous that anyone would consider building so close to such a treasure. Im adding a picture to ensure Im following the rules of this lovely site-sorry to hijack again
