I feel as if society maintains an overly positive position on following the rules. From Kindergarten to the 12th grade, from graduation to career, and from career to death we are always being told that there is a right (cookie cutter) way to lead your life and there is a wrong way. Throughout my years as a student in public education, I can say that our schools are not doing nearly enough to challenge innovation, creativity, and human advancement. What does this mean for your son, daughter, brother, sister, niece or nephew? The children coming out of Americas schools only know one way of thinking, and that is to study thoughts someone else came up with. Where are the fresh ideas? Where are we moving as a civilization if our futures minds are drilled by yesterdays information? Its great to know a backstory of a particular type of knowledge, but our schools are still doing a lackluster job of teaching kids how to CREATE new ideas and INNOVATE existing ones. Parents and teachers, think about what you do to inspire innovation in your children. I love classic literature just as much as the next guy, but until we start letting kids think for themselves and hone in on their creative problem solving skills, were looking at an incredibly stagnant future.
