I feel like I learn more about America from ESPN 30 for 30 films - TopicsExpress

I feel like I learn more about America from ESPN 30 for 30 films than I ever did in any class I took in school. My take away is: People in America need villains as much as they need heroes. And at what cost, when we arbitrarily make that distinction, does it have on entire communities and races especially portrayed through the media which are not keen on sports reporting as much as they are on telling a story. I think the infrastructure of that system that we continue to feed kids into, that has not changed arguably even post civil rights movement, is stark, prevalent and the most damning aspect of all is that it seems the majority of people dont want it to change. I grapple with the NCAA competition because I see both the beauty in sport as well as its extremely exploitative practices, and probably what I really grapple with is the fact that I know I am consumer of that exploitation. Anyways, if you want to learn about class warfare, American media and exploitation, check out the 30 for 30 series. Before you you watch an episode, do a quick google search to see how the media portrays these athletes, then watch the film.
